First-time shoe project for high-end car brand
Footwear company Athletic Propulsion Labs (APL) has joined forces with McLaren Automotive to create a new range of shoes, inspired by “supercars”.
The first offering from the collaboration is the limited-edition APL McLaren HySpeed, an all-purpose performance running shoe. This is the first time McLaren Automotive has taken part in a footwear project.
Among the shoe’s features is a three-piece segmented midsole containing proprietary technology from APL called FutureFoam pods. The pods are connected by a full-length lightweight carbon fibre plate, topped by a nitrogen-infused midsole compound that is engineered for responsiveness and compression.
Design details in the outsole reference McLaren’s cars, including a tread pattern inspired by performance tyres for speed and grip.
