Fashion will never give up on leather, UNIC says
General manager of Italian tanning industry association UNIC, Fulvia Bacchi, has said she is sure the fashion industry “will never give up on leather”.
In recent comments to fashion media in Italy, Ms Bacchi said UNIC kept a close eye on new materials that the fashion industry chooses to use in its products. She said the organisation pays particular attention if brands using these materials or their suppliers present the innovations in ways that are hostile to leather.
She argued that there was often misleading terminology in these companies’ marketing and communication, include frequent improper use of the term ‘leather’ (a practice that is now illegal in Italy and a number of other countries).
She insisted that the leather industry had clear circular credentials and that the fashion world, especially in areas such as medium- and high-end accessories, would never give up on the material.
