Skills project concludes in Brussels

Skills4Smart TCLF, a four-and-a-half-year project that aims, with funding from Europe’s Erasmus+ programme, to “upskill and reskill” people working in the textiles, clothing, leather, and footwear (TCLF) sectors in many European countries, has now concluded.

A final conference for the project took place in Brussels in mid-June to present the outcomes.

Twenty-two project partners conducted in-depth analysis of employment and skills in the TCLF sectors in the EU and have presented a framework for building “a solid sectoral skills strategy”. They said the strategy is “grounded in facts and data”. There is also a step-by-step guide on how to move from analysis to action.

Secretary general of the European Confederation of the Footwear Industry (CEC), Carmen Arias Castellano, said this project was essential for the development of “a collaborative network of stakeholders”, together with the creation of initiatives, including a new network of vocational education and training (VET) providers.

Her counterpart at leather industry body COTANCE, Gustavo González-Quijano, said the project was a “precursor for what will be done in the future” regarding skills and training in these sectors.
