Call for US to repeal China shoe tariffs
Industry representative body Footwear Distributors & Retailers of America (FDRA) has asked the Biden administration to repeal tariffs on Chinese footwear to give relief to the household budgets of US families.
The US imports 99% of the footwear it consumes, with 70% of these shoes coming from China. During the Trump administration, punitive tariffs were imposed on imports of Chinese footwear as part of a trade war between the two countries.
The FDRA has said it hoped the change in administration at the beginning of this year would bring about a repeal of the tariffs on Chinese footwear, calculating that the measures are costing US consumers an additional $7 billion per year.
Rolling back duties on Chinese goods under the Section 301 tariffs is being considered by the Biden administration.
