UITIC announcement expected in late June
Italy’s footwear and tanning industry machinery manufacturers’ association, Assomac, will host a press conference in Milan on June 29 in partnership with UITIC, the International Union of Shoe Industry Technicians.
The presidents of both bodies, Maria Vittoria Brustia of Assomac, and Yves Morin of UITIC, will speak at the event.
They have said already that the main point of discussion will be “the synergy between the Simac Tanning Tech exhibition and the UITIC international footwear technology congress”.
This has led to speculation that UITIC will use the event to make an announcement about its twenty-first International Footwear Congress, which was scheduled to take place in China in 2021. UITIC announced in February 2021 that it had agreed with host organisation, the China Leather Industry Association, to postpone the event until this year, but has offered no further detail until now.
With travel to China and holding international events there still difficult, it is possible that UITIC may have decided to look for an alternative venue for the congress rather than wait for covid-19 restrictions in China to lift. Its last congress took place more than four years ago, in Porto in May 2018.
Assomac will next host Simac-Tanning Tech in Milan from September 20-22.
