Recovery in evidence in Vietnam
The Vietnamese leather and footwear industry has released positive figures for its performance in the first five months of 2022, giving indications of a recovery since covid-19 restrictions led to widespread disruption in the manufacturing sector in mid-2021.
Between January and May 2022, Vietnamese footwear exports reached $9.4 billion in value, an increase of 11.4% year on year. The US was the main importer of shoes made in Vietnam with a share of 40%, followed by Europe with 25%.
Export of leathergoods over the same period reached $1.7 billion in value, an increase of 22.1% compared to the same period last year.
