Shoes lead the way for Descente in South Korea

Japanese sports group Descente has reported revenues of around $845 million for the year ending March 31, 2022, an increase of 12.4% compared to the previous year.

The group’s home market delivered 47% of total sales revenue, while South Korea accounted for more than 49%. China’s share was 3.7%.

Almost 60% of revenues came from athletic wear, 31% from its golf collections and 8.5% from sales of products in its outdoor category.

In South Korea, products that sold well included Descente’s Enerzite running shoes (see image) and R-90 golf shoes, with sales of Umbro products growing too.

In Japan, it said sales of “heavy apparel” such as its Mizusawa and Alpine jackets had been good owing to low temperatures in the winter months. It said its Descente brand had continued to grow in Japan, while its Arena products had acquired “strong trust from top swimmers”. The group said more and more swimmers were wearing Arena products at international tournaments.
