Indigenous-led projects are the focus of Vivobarefoot campaign
Footwear brand Vivobarefoot has announced a new fundraising initiative through which it will seek to provide funding for sustainability projects in the US, Ethiopia and Brazil.
In partnership with campaign group One Earth, Vivobarefoot has unveiled co-branded athletic shoes for adults and children, the Primus Lite III and Primus Sport. The shoe are in a specially commissioned colour, One Earth Neo Mint.
One Earth works to accelerate collective actions that will help limit the global average temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
The two organisations are encouraging customers to engage through social media with a campaign that highlights the work of the three projects.
These are the Rainbow Fiber Co-operative, a wool co-operative that preserves biodiversity and traditional Navajo methods for gathering and using the fibres; the Agroecology Fund and MELCA, which is reviving indigenous farming practices to support traditional communities in Ethiopia; and Amazon Frontlines and the Ceibo Alliance, who are pioneering a new model of indigenous-led conservation in the Upper Amazon.
Customers are being encouraged to donate to these projects and Vivobarefoot and One Earth have said they will match any donations up to a total of $30,000.
