Awards event returns as Cordwainers celebrates 750 years
The UK’s Worshipful Company of Cordwainers is celebrating 750 years of existence in 2022. It is one of the oldest of the City of London’s livery companies, set up in 1272 to oversee the trade of shoemaking.
Today, the company continues a keen interest in the footwear industry and a strong charitable ethos. It says its primary focus is on nurturing and supporting young talent in the fashion and shoemaking industries.
As part of its celebration of this anniversary year and as part of its support of “next-generation footwear talent”, it will once again host the Cordwainer Footwear Awards in June as a live event. Students on the undergraduate footwear design courses at De Montfort University in Leicester, the University of Northampton and London College of Fashion (part of the University of the Arts), are eligible to take part.
Master of the company, Peter Lamble, said he was delighted the awards event was returning as a live event. “I am thrilled that we continue to seek out and support the next generation of talent through this competition,” he said.
