New research project aims for more precision on carbon footprints

Specialist Milan-based leather consultancy Spin 360 and leather manufacturing group JBS Couros have announced a new joint project.

JBS Couros is to invest €40,000 to set up a new research centre, Biomat, which Spin 360 will run. Biomat’s remit will be to carry out scientific studies into the environmental impact of a range of bio-based materials, including leather.

The founding companies said their aim was to compile “more precise information” about these materials and reflect more fairly the contribution that upstream activities, including livestock farming make to their environmental footprint.
