Shoes that have lasted 75 years so far

Footwear brand Tricker’s has shared the details of news it received recently from a customer in Canada.

Peter Lake, who lives in Victoria, British Columbia, got in touch with the company to say that pair of Tricker’s shoes he bought in 1947 were still in fine condition and constituted one of his best ever investments, proving that quality lasts.

Mr Lake, who is now 101 years old, bought the shoes in his native UK after serving in World War II. He went on to work in public administration jobs in Zambia and, naturally, his Tricker’s brogues went to Africa with him.

He also worked as a tailor and has retained the knack of dressing elegantly in retirement. He moved to Canada in the early 1970s, naturally taking the Tricker’s with him across the Atlantic.

“Almost all elements of Tricker’s footwear can be repaired or replaced,” the Northampton-based footwear manufacturer said. “Our Goodyear-welt construction means that it’s easy for us to do. Conserving and repairing, rather than simply buying something new and replacing, is at the heart of our manufacturing process.”
