Recovery for Mexican footwear sector

16/02/2022

The executive president of Guanajuato-based footwear industry body CICEG, Alejandro Gómez Támez, has predicted that Mexico’s footwear production this year will exceed 200 million pairs once again.

This would be a 20% increase compared to the figure for 2020, but would still be substantially below the pre-pandemic figure the industry achieved in 2019, which was 250 million pairs.

In recent comments to local media, Mr Gómez Támez said there had been a recovery in 2021. He said the level of further growth this year would depend on the levels of imported shoes coming into Mexico illegally.
