Positive news for footwear jobs in Brazil

Brazil’s footwear industry has welcomed the announcement of an extension to a government measure to lower the levels of tax employers in the country have to pay.

A payroll exemption measure called ‘Desoneração da Folha de Pagamento’ will now remain in place until the end of 2023.

Executive president of footwear industry body Abicalçados, Haroldo Ferreira, said this will help Brazil’s shoe manufacturers continue a trend of increased employment that they were able to achieve in 2021.

Last year, Mr Ferreira said, footwear companies across Brazil created 37,000 new jobs.

In total, Brazil’s footwear industry comprises more than 5,000 companies that are responsible for more than 280,000 jobs.
