Capri works towards full LWG certified sourcing
Leathergoods and footwear group Capri Holdings has targeted sourcing “better leather” in its new corporate social responsibility (CSR) report.
In fiscal year 2021, 85% of the leather sourced by its brands – Versace, Jimmy Choo and Michael Kors – came from Leather Working Group (LWG) gold and silver-rated tanneries.
“We know that the impact of the leather supply chain extends beyond the tanning process, and we are exploring additional ways to lessen the impact of the leather sourced by our brands,” said Capri.
It has set a target of sourcing 95% leather from LWG gold or silver tanneries, or tanneries with comparable certification, by 2025.
On water use, it said: “We acknowledge that our agricultural supply chain, including leather production and tanning, has one of the most significant impacts to water use and quality within our business. By leveraging the tools and resources of multi-stakeholder initiatives like the Sustainable Apparel Coalition and LWG, we seek to reduce the water footprint associated with our brands’ products.”
The report also highlights the company’s progress toward key CSR targets relating to environmental sustainability and climate change, human rights, diversity and inclusion, and philanthropy.
Group CEO, John Idol, said: “Over the past year, we continued to improve the way we work in order to better the world in which we live. I am incredibly proud of our entire organisation for demonstrating how business can truly be a force for good.”
