Three Bangalore-based footwear industry executives have left jobs at Nike and adidas to launch their own shoe start-up, Plaeto.

After a combined three decades in the industry, founders Ravi Kallayil, Sara Kilgore and Pavan Kareti decided to step out on their own.

With funding from angel investors, they have conducted their own research of the morphology of the feet of children and adolescents in India and have worked with designers and engineers locally and in Europe and North America to use the information to make better-fitting shoes for this segment of the domestic market.

Quoting studies that show that as many as 30% of young people in India make do with shoes that do not fit, the Plaeto founders have said they are sure they can make a substantial improvement.
