Zero-buffer cutting technology from Lectra

Automated cutting technology provider Lectra has launched a new solution specifically for the athletic footwear industry, its VectorFootwear iP6.

According to the company, this combines cutting equipment innovation and specially designed consumables to achieve zero-buffer cutting on a wide variety of athletic footwear materials. Lectra’s contention is that this will enable manufacturers to achieve significant material savings.

“Each millimetre of buffer reduction translates into a 1% reduction in fabric consumption,” Lectra said.

It added that the die presses in use in many footwear production facilities cannot provide the speed and flexibility necessary to manage “the increasing array of styling in this market”, insisting that a digital production process will be key for manufacturers that want to become suppliers of choice to top athletic footwear brands.

Its research and development teams devoted three years to developing this technology. VectorFootwear iP6 has integrated laser scanners and adhere to the highest security standards, Lectra said.

The company’s assessment of the athletic footwear market is that it will grow at more than 7% per year between now and 2025, driven, in part, by the desire among many consumers for a healthier, less sedentary lifestyle.

Chief product officer, Céline Choussy, said Lectra was committed to helping athletic footwear brands and manufacturers respond to the needs of the industry.
