Four million trees for Oboz
Outdoor footwear brand Oboz has now planted more than 4 million trees through a partnership with a programme called One More Tree. The Montana-based brand passed the milestone at the end of September.
It has long had a policy of planting a tree for every pair of shoes it sells, but to celebrate hitting 4 million, it has announced that, throughout October and November, it will plant two trees for every pair.
Trees for the Future plants most of the trees in grassroots projects in Africa. In the mountains of Cameroon and Kenya, the trees protect soil and provide livelihoods for hillside communities in the form of fruit, livestock feed, and natural fertilisers.
In the arid regions of Senegal and Tanzania, fruit trees combined with vegetable gardens are enabling families to combat hunger.
“The work that Trees for the Future does is so important,” said Oboz company president, Amy Beck. “These trees aren’t as much about carbon footprint as they are about providing nutrition and economic stability to families, and we’re proud to be a partner and support their initiatives.”
