Set for an October 1 release, the “race-capable” Bondi X incorporates a carbon fibre plate which has been designed to provide all athletes, from beginner to professional level, with “stiffer, more energy-efficient movement through each stride”.
The shoe also features Hoka’s lightest foam yet, weighing around 255 grams for a US women’s size 7 and 300 grams for a US men’s size 9.
Additional details include an extended rocker sole and a mesh upper knitted from three-dimensional hotmelt yarns, which the company said allow the shoe to be durable while still breathable.
What the brand described as an early-stage meta-rocker (a low-heel toe drop with a rounded sole shape, designed to accentuate a runner’s natural stride and help propel them forward from heel to toe-off), an extended heel and “specialised midsole geometries” round out its latest offering.
Vice president of product at Hoka, Gretchen Weimer, commented: “Our team is always looking to push geometries that aren’t intuitive to the rest of the marketplace. The Bondi X is the pinnacle of Hoka’s progression thus far.
“This is our way of democratising innovation that might have been reserved for competitive runners in the past.”
