Star’s shoe auction supports food charity
Film star Catherine Deneuve, who once told Madame Figaro she was “mad about shoes”, is putting 125 pairs of sandals, boots and pumps from her own wardrobe up for auction.
The shoes will go on sale in September in an online auction run by Champs-Élysées-based auction house Artcurial, with all of the proceeds going to a charity called Les Restos du Cœur. This organisation, set up by another famous French actor, Coluche, in 1985, provides food for people in need.
Items for sale, including products from Louboutin, Yves Saint-Laurent, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, Manolo Blahnik, Prada and Roger Vivier, range in size from 37 to 39.5 and are estimated to fetch between €30 and €150 per pair, Artcurial has said.
“Restos du Cœur is deeply grateful to Cathetine Denueve for supporting our social mission,” said the organisation’s president, Patrice Douret, “which is still essential in this difficult period for so many people. This online auction is unprecedented and, thanks to Catherine Deneueve’s generosity in donating part of the collection of shoes she wore during the highlights of her life in cinema, people everywhere will have the chance to share in this gesture of solidarity.”
