Argentina: sports footwear factory reopens
A shoe manufacturing facility in Argentina, set up by Brazilian group Paquetá in 2007, but closed in 2018, has reopened for business under new owners and with new customers.
Paquetá opened the 9,000 square-metre factory in Chivilcoy, 150 kilometres west of Buenos Aires, and used it to make footwear for adidas, generating around 700 jobs.
The factory closed in 2018, but a local company called Bicontinentar Footwear Technologies has acquired it, reopened it, hired 100 people and begun to make shoes for brands including Diadora and domestic brand Athix.
Local media have said Bicontinentar will also produce footwear for New Balance and Spanish brand Joma at the factory.
