Mexico: Ecotan partner tannery launches new range of shoe leather
Mexican leather manufacturer Suelas Wyny has launched a new collection of footwear leather called Nexta, which it has made using the Ecotan range of technologies from Silvateam.
Ecotan technologies involve the use of only natural products in the making of leather, allowing specialist partners to take the material back at the end of a finished product’s useful life for use in fertiliser production.
In its presentation of Nexta, Suelas Wyny has focused on three properties that Ecotan gives to the new range of leather, claiming that they will lead to increased consumer wellbeing and reduced foot odour.
According to the Mexican group, Nexta leather has good ability to absorb perspiration from the foot, helping to turn shoes into “a dry environment, averse to bacterial growth because bacteria feed on components in the perspiration”.
Secondly, it says the formula of tannins used in the production of Nexta helps make the leather “highly effective in fighting the bacterial activity”.
Finally, it says that Nexta will eliminate 99% of any bacteria that might occur inside a shoe and that this will help prevent the shoe from becoming “a bacteria incubator”, meaning that the wearer’s feet will not be “contaminated by bacteria every time we wear shoes”.
