Leather industry in Bangladesh surpasses export target
The leather industry in Bangladesh achieved export revenues of more than $940 million in the country’s recently ended financial year, the 12-month period from July 2020 to June 2021.
This figure represents growth of 18% compared to the previous financial year. The government had set the industry an export revenue target of $920 million.
Exports of leather footwear contributed $570 million towards the total, growing by 19% year on year, while shipments of leathergoods brought in more than $250 million, up by 14.5%.
Tanners in Bangladesh achieved earnings of almost $120 million from exports of finished leather during the 12-month period, 21% higher than for the previous financial year.
