Former Nike and UA execs launch their own trail-shoe brand

Two sports footwear executives, Kevin Fallon and Dave Dombrow, who worked together at Nike and then Under Armour, have launched their own trail-running shoe brand, Speedland.
Its first shoe, the SL:PDX, became available for pre-order on June 15 and the brand has said it will deliver the shoes on August 15. Supplies are limited.

The product has a customisable Michelin outsole, a removable Carbitex carbon plate and a knit upper with Dyneema fibres and a moccasin stitch to eliminate lamination and glue. The shoe uses the Boa lacing system.

Mr Fallon told Forbes at the time of the launch that most big companies see footwear as a commodity product, with new designs needing to hit specific price points that lead to compromises in material selections. “We want to use the best components at every level and not de-cost it,” he said. “It is a different way of looking at it, more like equipment.”

One new idea is that the lugs are cuttable. They come at a height of 6.5 millimetres, but can be cut down to a height of 3 millimetres to allow wearers to choose the height that suits them best, depending on the terrain or the season of the year in which the want to run.

The shoes cost $375 per pair.
