Factories busy again in Indonesia

Indonesia’s purchasing managers’ index (PMI), which gives an indication of the strength of the manufacturing sector there, rose to a record high for the third consecutive month in May.

Local media have reported that this has compelled manufacturers to hire new employees for the first time since the emergence of the covid-19 pandemic.

Employers’ association Apindo said demand for lifestyle-related goods, including shoes, was driving the recovery in manufacturing activity in Indonesia.
