Shoe manufacturers in Brazil exported 8.5 million pairs during the month of April, according to figures published by the country’s main footwear industry body, Abicalçados. It said this total represented an increase of 76% compared the same month in 2020. Revenues from these shipments reached $65 million, an increase of 115% year on year.

For the first four months of this year, footwear exports achieved a cumulative total of 40.5 million pairs and revenues of $258.8 million. These totals represent an increase of 10.1% in volume, but a decline of 4.6% in revenues year on year.

During the first four months, 10.5% of exported footwear from Brazil went to the US market, which took the highest share of shipments. Argentina was the second-biggest export market, with a share of 7.8%, followed by France with 6.8%. All three of these markets registered substantial growth in terms of volume and value.

Abicalçados president, Haroldo Ferreira, said the organisation’s current projection is for 13% growth in the volume of exports in 2021.
