Messi’s record-breaking boots offered by Christie’s

28/04/2021

A game-worn pair of adidas Nemeziz Messi 19.1 football boots, worn by Argentinean FC Barcelona forward Lionel Messi when he scored his 644th goal for Barcelona against Real Valladolid on December 22, 2020, are currently open to bids on Christie’s website.

Mr Messi set a record for scoring the most goals for a single club while wearing the boots, achieving the feat in 749 appearances for the club. (Previously, the long-standing record holder was Brazilian forward Pelé.)

The UK size 8 footwear features original (now peeling) customisation, detailing: “Antonela Roccuzzo” (Mr Messi’s wife) and “Thiago, Mateo and Ciro” (his three sons), complete with their dates of birth.

Dual signed and donated by Mr Messi, the boots were initially displayed at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya.

All proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Hospital Vall d’Hebron’s Art and Health programme, Christie’s said.
