Bricks and mortar: Balenciaga enters South America

21/04/2021

A new Balenciaga brand store in São Paulo, Brazil, recently opened its doors inside the luxury focused JK Iguatemi shopping mall within the city’s financial district.

Representing the Kering-owned, Paris-headquartered house’s first brick and mortar presence in South America, the 180-square-metre store will see the brand join others including Chanel, Gucci, Bottega Veneta, Prada and Burberry inside the mall.

Shoes, handbags, women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, accessories, jewellery and eyewear will all be on display within the retail space, which includes dressing rooms with dark leather seating and rosewood walls.

Balenciaga will also launch on Iguatemi’s São Paulo-based e-commerce site.

The Demna Gvasalia-helmed creative enterprise’s design presence featured heavily in Kering sister brand Gucci’s Aria collection (pictured) earlier this month, part of Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele’s vision of a popular culture “hacking lab”.
