Fire ravages Valentino footwear factory
Italian footwear and accessories brand Valentino has said it is confident of being able to deliver thousands of pairs of shoes from its spring-summer 2021 collection on time and fulfil the orders it has received in spite of a fire at its production facility in Tuscany.
A fire on April 2 at an industrial estate at Levane, between Arezzo and Florence, caused extensive damage to a number of factories, including the Valentino Shoes Lab.
Valentino employs more than 150 people there and the factory produces around 1,300 pairs of high-end women’s shoes per day.
With orders to meet, the company has asked its suppliers to continue to deliver leather and footwear components. It said it was weighing up a number of possibilities, including using its factory at Montelupo Fiorentino, near Empoli, to house Valentino Shoes Lab staff and allow them to make the shoes there.
