Bangladesh leather industry falls short of export target
The wider Bangladesh leather industry has reported export revenues of $526.6 million for the first seven months of the country’s current financial year, from July 2020 to January 2021. This compares to $558.9 million for the same months in the previous financial year and represents a decline of 5.8%.
Export earnings from leather footwear were down by 1.9% to $329.5 million. The decline for leathergoods was 9.8%, falling to $133.5 million.
Finished leather brought in $63.5 million over the more recent seven-month period, down by 18.2% year on year.
Bangladesh’s Export Promotion Bureau had the leather industry a target of $920 million for these months.
