Wet blue production on the rise in Bursa

Reports from Turkey suggest that, while demand remains low for the country’s most iconic leather products, double-face and garment nappa, there has been an increase in demand for wet blue.

By the end of 2020, wet blue producers in the tanning cluster near Bursa in western Turkey were producing 400 tonnes of the material per day. In 2019, the figure was closer to 250 tonnes per day, meaning wet blue production in Bursa has increased by 37.5% in a year.

Commentators say that around 40% of the wet blue hides coming out of tanneries there is being exported to China at the moment, while the rest goes to tanneries in Turkey for the production of shoe-upper leather.
