Ecco wins ELLE Denmark’s ‘Green Imprint’ award

Danish footwear brand Ecco won the ‘Green Imprint’ award for its DriTan technology at the ELLE Denmark Style Awards in late November.

DriTan technology is designed to be a water-saving alternative to traditional tanning methods and keeps the shoes “made for the elements”, according to the brand.

The ‘Green Imprint’ award is given to the company which has best integrated sustainable and climate-friendly processes in “large parts” of the value chain, plus managed to “articulate the initiatives in a way that resonates with Danish fashion consumers and makes them aware that everyone has a responsibility”, Ecco said in a press release.

Editor-in-chief and media director of ELLE Denmark, Cecile Ingdal, commented: “Leather is a frequently criticised material in sustainable circles, as large amounts of water are used during production, but Ecco has taken the first solid steps towards sustainable leather production with DriTan, which greatly reduces the amount of water than is used in connection with leather tanning.”

Due to covid-19, the 2020 ELLE Denmark Style Awards were held online.
