Mental health focus for Vans
Checkerboard Day, an event launched last year by footwear brand Vans, will take place again in 2020, with November 19 as the date.
Vans has set this up as a global initiative “to champion the power of creative expression”. It has said this year’s Checkerboard Day will focus specifically on “the vital role creativity plays in helping individuals and communities address mental health and well-being”.
Quoting a recent study that showed that in the US alone, half of today’s youth are more stressed and anxious now than they were before covid-19 started, Vans said it will use Checkerboard Day 2020 to support 10 charities from around the world whose shared purpose is to focus on creativity as a means of improving mental health.
The company will give each of these ten charities $100,000.
