German project will help Desma upgrade spare-parts tool
Soling technology provider Desma has said it will use the findings of a research project it is involved in to update its Desparts tool for spare-parts ordering.
Germany’s ministry for education and research is funding a project called Long Life to design reliable forecasting models for identifying wear and tear and possible faults in machines at an early stage. Along with providers of data technology, smart sensors and artificial intelligence, Desma is one of the research project partners. Long Life will run until 2022.
The footwear technology developer’s smart service product manager, Alexander Klein, has said: “We want to be able to predict exactly when a spare part will break down. This will allow our customers to order critical components at the right time and thus ensure reliable and continuous production.”
Mr Klein went on to say that the expertise Desma is able to acquire through its work on the project will help it develop Desparts 2.0, which provides footwear manufacturers with information about the availability, price and supply history of specific components. This will help them order the right spare part at the right time, he added.
He explained that 10% of Desma’s customers are already using Desparts. “The benefits are obvious,” he said. “Easy access, fast response times, order history, direct price-checks and real-time availability.”
