New research institute for China’s shoe capital
In mid-October, Sichuan University of Science and Engineering unveiled a new research institute for the Wenzhou (Zhejiang province) shoe leather industry. Since 2001, Wenzhou has been known as China’s shoe capital.
The research institute is based at Zhejiang’s shoe leather industry innovation service complex on in the Lucheng district of Wenzhou.
China’s Shoes Capital Industrial Park, also in Lucheng, has amassed more than 1,300 shoe-making companies over the past 20 years, in addition to footwear markets, a museum and quality control testing facilities.
The new research institute will harness its shared resources to investigate technical issues in the development of shoe leather. Industry figures have said that, in strengthening the relationship between industry and academia, the institute will help to develop the profile of Wenzhou as a centre for innovation in the shoe leather industry.
