Italy: leathergoods exports fall by one-third
Leathergoods manufacturers’ association Assopellettieri has said Italy’s leathergoods sector had achieved export revenues of a little over €2.6 billion in the first six months of this troubled year, a decline of 33% compared to the same period in 2019.
The products included in the Assopellettieri figures are briefcases and document holders, suitcases and travel accessories, bags, small leathergoods and belts.
Leather bags contributed two-thirds of total export values, but suffered a decline of 30% year on year, bringing in revenues of €1.7 billion.
Small leathergoods and belts, the second- and third-biggest categories, suffered falls of 44.3% and 41.6% respectively, with exports reaching €409.3 million for small leathergoods and €246.8 million for belts.
