The Clean Classics collection includes signature trainers like favourites like the Superstar, Stan Smith, Continental 80 and more, all updated for launch this year.
Soles are made from a more sustainable compound of 90% natural rubber and 10% recycled rubber, according to the company. Sockliners comprise either recycled OrthoLite (with a blend of 15% recycled OrthoLite, 6% Bio-oil and 5% recycled rubber) or recyclable and non-toxic cork. The shoes also integrate Bloom Foam, which is made using algae-harvesting technology.
Shoelaces are made from paper and packaging comes from leftover stock of box material that is no longer usable because of changes or mistakes in the print. To maximise efficiency, boxes will feature random print patterns that differ from box to box.
“The truth is that these shoes alone will not save the planet,” according to adidas, repeating a message written on some of the shoes; however, the new line reflects “a commitment to continuous innovation in the field of sustainability”.
