The cabinet secretary for Kenya’s interior ministry, Dr Fred Matiang’i, has said that, from now on, the department will source boots for the country’s police force locally.

“We have to promote local businesses and create employment,” he told local media at the end of April.

He said national police uniforms will also come from Kenyan manufacturers from now on. The gov-ernment is committed to boosting Kenya’s economy in this way, Dr Matiang’i said, and will fight to prevent the “export” of jobs local suppliers can carry out.
