National honour for Ferragamo president

04/06/2020

The company president of high-end shoe and leathergoods brand Salvatore Ferragamo, Ferrucio Ferragamo, was among 25 business leaders from across all sectors to be named as new recipients of Italy’s Cavaliere del Lavoro, or Order of Merit for Labour, award.

He travelled to Rome on June 2 to receive the award from the country’s president, Sergio Mattarella, as part of a ceremony held every year to mark Republic Day.

Recipients of the award are Italian citizens who have a distinguished track record in agriculture, industry, commerce, craftsmanship or financial services. They must have operated independently in the same sector for at least 20 years and have made what the authorities call “a significant contribution” to economic growth and productivity.

Ferrucio Ferragamo is one of the children of company founder, Salvatore Ferragamo. When Salvatore Ferragamo died in 1960, his wife, Wanda, took over the running of the company, involving all of her children in the business. Ferrucio Ferragamo took over from his mother as company president in 2006.
