Leather Naturally announces new membership model

Campaign programme Leather Naturally has announced a new range of membership fees, saying the revision should make it easier for smaller companies in the global leather industry to provide backing for it.

There are currently 140 members of Leather Naturally,  but the campaign has said increasing this number will be necessary for it to create “a stronger and united industry approach to educating and promoting leather to influencers, designers, brands and consumers”.

Annual fees will start at $250 for start-ups, $500 for companies with a turnover of up to $5 million, and $1000 for those with a turnover of up to $10 million. Companies with a turnover of more than $10 million will continue to pay an annual fee of $2000 to be members of Leather Naturally.

According to Jon Clark, chief executive of tanning group PrimeAsia and one of the founders of Leather Naturally, the leather industry is facing “huge image challenges”. He said: “It is crucial that the companies in the industry, big or small, support Leather Naturally.”

Chair of the campaign’s management board, Egbert Dikkers, who is the sustainability director at leather chemicals group Smit & Zoon, explained that a new Leather Naturally website was in development and that there would be space on it for all members to raise their profile.
