Indian tanners and footwear makers have asked the government to impose anti-dumping duties on footwear from China, according to local reports.

Ramesh Juneja, regional chairman of The Council of Leather Exports, told The Indian Times that while the import duty on footwear was increased to 35% in 2019, imports of Chinese footwear have not declined.

He said: “The only way this can be controlled is to impose anti-dumping duty. We have already written to the government about this.”

They have also asked for higher duties on imported leather chemicals, according to the report.
