Growth for footwear but a tough 11 months for Pakistan’s leather sector
Pakistan’s leather sector recorded a decline of 8.1% in export revenues in the first 11 months of the recently ended financial year. Between July 2019 and May 2020, the leather industry exported material and finished products worth $725.4 million.
Tanners shipped 15.3 million square-metres of leather to customers overseas during the period, earning $173.4 million, a decline of 26.4% in volume and of 23.1% in value.
Finished products, including garments and gloves, brought in $443.9 million, a fall of 1.5%.
For footwear, however, there was growth; shipments rose by 12.6% in volume to reach almost 13.4 million pairs, and by 4.3% in value, reaching $114.8 million.
