Keen developing TPU technology for 2021 debut

Keen footwear from Portland, Oregon, has unveiled a new technology that will be used in hiking shoes set to debut next year.

Called the Keen.Bellows Flex, the technology is a flexible TPU piece that will be inserted into the forefoot of hiking shoes. Described as an accordion-style TPU, the piece is used in the forefoot area to make it easier for a wearer to flex in these high-use areas of the shoe.

Incorporating the TPU insert, rather than relying solely on overlaying material, the shoe is said to be lighter, more flexible and longer lasting. The technology will debut in January 2021 in the Ridge Flex and Tempo Flex hiking shoes.
