London-based capital investor may increase its interest in footwear

Broadcast news channel Sky News has reported that capital investment company OpCapita is considering an investment in footwear retail group Clarks.

Clarks announced in May that it was cutting 900 jobs around the world and was seeking new investors. Sky News said that a US-based company, Sycamore Partners, was also weighing up an investment in Clarks.

In late 2017, OpCapita acquired Spanish footwear retail group Merkal, which operates 215 stores across Spain. At the time, OpCapita said the Spanish footwear market was recovering from the slump brought on by the 2008 financial crisis and would grow by 3% per year.
