Leather UK, Ruth Glen Consultancy and the UK Fashion and Textile Association (UKFT) have been successful in their first round of the bid, but need to submit the second round by the first week of February.
To help, they have requested members spend four minutes filling out a survey, to show evidence of the strength of the sector and its ambitions to grow.
Leather UK said: “We recently received some great news about our bid to the Mayor of London’s Good Growth Fund to develop A Centre for Artisan Accessory and Leather Makers providing business space and training opportunities for leather and accessories craftspeople in East London.
"The centre will provide opportunities for small businesses to develop and grow, and provide facilities for the training and skills development required by this unique sector.
“The centre will support the continued development of the ‘Made in the UK’ movement, link high quality British making with fashion design and manufacture, and pass on artisan skills to the next generation of makers.
“Please could you spare 4 minutes of your time to answer this very short survey before the end of Tuesday 21 January it will be invaluable in supporting the development of a new space for leather and accessory industry.”
