Madrid exhibition organisers change their minds about shoes (again)
11/12/2019
At the start of 2019, the former Momad Shoes component split from the show and reformed as of ShoesRoom by Momad, with main national footwear industry association, FICE, acting as the co-organiser. ShoesRoom by Momad took place for the first time in March at a new location at the opposite end of the Spanish capital.
On December 11, FICE and Ifema announced that they had reached agreement to absorb Shoesroom back into Momad. Ifema said more than 70% of the brands exhibiting at Ifema had expressed a desire once again to put their footwear collections on display there.
Ifema and FICE stopped running Madrid’s previous footwear exhibition, Modacalzado, in 2013 and threw footwear’s lot in with Momad, creating Momad Shoes. At first the footwear element was co-located with Momad, then (from 2016) it took place on separate dates.
After the September 2018 edition, FICE said it thought a cheaper exhibition would suit its member companies better and, still in partnership with Ifema, it created ShoesRoom by Momad.
FICE executive president, José Monzonís, said the reamalgamated arrangement would suit the current retail climate in Spain.
Momad will next take place from February 6-8.
