New president for La Rioja footwear bodies

29/11/2019
Footwear industry bodies AICCOR and CTCR, which represent the sector in the region of La Rioja in northern Spain, have elected Laborio Sevilla as their new president. He will carry out the role for the next four years.

While AICCOR works to promote La Rioja’s footwear sector commercially, CTCR is a research and technology centre located in the region, in the town of Arnedo, but working on projects that can benefit the shoe industry worldwide.

Mr Sevilla is the manging director of a footwear group called Nuevo Milenio, which has Victoria and Wamba as its main brands. He represents the third generation of a family-run company that started making shoes in 1915.

On taking up the post, Mr Sevilla said he greatly valued AICCOR’s role in preserving the unity of the footwear sector in La Rioja, a small region but Spain’s second-biggest source of shoes, after the Valencian region, which has towns of great renown in footwear, such as Elda and Petrer. He described CTCR as a pioneer in innovation, nationally and internationally.

The new president said he wanted to focus during his tenure on questions such as “reindustrialisation”, training, job creation, international expansion, Industry 4.0 and sustainability.
