London Design Museum 2020 plan features sneakers and Prada

In May, Sneakers Unboxed: Studio to Street will put cult classics, limited edition silhouettes and rare colourways under the spotlight, according to organisers, as it looks at how sneaker design has “revolutionised retail styles, taken hold of a subculture and sparked a phenomenal audience of ‘sneakerheads’ from all over the world”.
The exhibition will reveal design processes behind some of the world’s most innovative shoes, as well as the style icons and brand collaborations that have shaped the industry.
“For the first time trend cycles are moving faster than the traditional speed of sneaker production,” organisers said. “This exhibition asks what the impact of this is on manufacturing technology, creatives and makers.”
Prada’s first major museum exhibition will open in September 2020. Prada. Front and Back will explore the brand’s creative approach, inspirations and landmark collaborations.
Organisers said it will also dive into “Prada’s transformation of the idea and practice of fashion and the continuing evolution of a global enterprise”. The phrase Front and Back in the exhibition’s title alludes to both the “surface” of fashion and the “creative and industrial infrastructure on which it depends”.
“Through the prism of design visionaries such as Rem Koolhaas and Herzog and de Meuron, we will tell Prada’s remarkable story in fashion,” said Deyan Sudjic, director and curator of the Prada exhibit.
