Bauhaus centenary recognition for Fagus factory
06/11/2019
When restoring and renovating its factory in Alfeld-an-der-Leine in Lower Saxony in the 1980s, the owners of Fagus, Ernst and Gerd Greten, carried out the work without altering the original design.
This factory is famous because it was one of the first that Walter Gropius, the founder of Bauhaus, worked on as an independent architect, constructing the original factory in 1911.
With 2019 being the centenary of Bauhaus, the committee wanted to honour the contribution Fagus has played in preserving the famous building. The factory became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2011 and currently welcomes more than 25,000 visitors per year.
