Founder and secretary general of Kenyan leather industry body Leather Apex, Beatrice Mwasi, has repeated her message that there has “never been a better time than now” to invest in the African country’s leather sector and help it to become globally competitive.

She said there were three main reasons for this belief. Kenya’s livestock population is the third-largest in Africa, behind only those of Ethiopia and Sudan. Secondly, the level of political goodwill is high. And finally, she pointed out that there is high demand for leather footwear and leather accessories among Kenyan consumers.
