Nike to continue with plans for Arizona plant

It expects to begin renovations of the building in the city of Goodyear later this year, with production due to start in early 2020. It intends to create more than 500 jobs at the site.
There had been some doubt about whether this project would continue after Arizona state governor, Doug Ducey, announced he would rescind a $1 million incentive for Nike to build the plant there.
This came after the brand withdrew a limited-edition sneaker that had caused controversy due to its use of an early version of the US flag that some claim has racist overtones.
Announcing its decision to move forward with the new facility, Nike said: “The expansion of Air MI in Arizona helps us keep pace with the growing demand for Nike Air and also greatly increases the size of our US manufacturing footprint.”
It is the third such facility Nike has in the US, joining those already operational in Oregon and Missouri.
